Gaylene Gould is a Writer, Consultant and Creative Director of WriteTalkListen working in the UK and internationally.
For over twenty years Gaylene has pursued a quest to raise the creative voices of the unheard. This inquiry has led her around the world and to acquire a vast range of experience. She has worked with major organisations such as the Bfi, Toronto International Film Festival, BBC, Arts Council England as an international curator, producer, documentary-maker, creative director and theatre maker. Gaylene has revealed African films to international audiences, documented the hidden tales of sex workers for TV, established arts practices in hard to reach areas and brought international cinema into state school classrooms.
Now, Gaylene raises her own voice by writing and producing creative projects that promote social healing through her company WriteTalkListen. Her short stories have been published in several anthologies and her novel manuscript, “The Sacrifice” was the inaugural winner of the 2012 Commonword Cultureword Prize. Gaylene has also written for performance and radio.
Gaylene is an engaging speaker, cultural reviewer and moderator. She presents for BBC Radio 4, speaks at major events and chairs discussions for organisations such as the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Gaylene helps others raise their voice through her work as an accredited coach and facilitator. She supports individuals, writers, artists and creative organisations, such as the National Theatre, Southbank Centre and Birmingham Symphony Hall, to review their own stories in order to transform their process and practice.
Gaylene reflects on her work in cultural essays and think pieces and through her work as a Faculty Member of the lifestyle philosophy enterprise The School of Life.
